Possible Causes of OMD


  • Sucking habits (thumb, fingers, etc.)
  • Extended use of pacifiers & sippy cups
  • Tongue-Tie
  • Improper resting posture of the tongue
  • Enlarged tonsils or adnoids, allergies & sinus obstruction
  • Bruxing & clenching of dentition & facial muscles


Treatment for OMD often consists of a team of professionals including, dentist, orthodontist, ENT, allergist, pediatrician, and speech-language pathologist.
